When I see carnations it reminds me of when I came back from 5th grade camp. Pulling up into the school parking lot I saw all the parents waiting by the curb with bundles of balloons and flowers. I saw my mom,one of the only asian ladies there, holding one balloon and a huge bouquet of carnations. When the bus stopped I got off and ran to give her a hug. She gave me the flowers and balloons and said, “I had got you more balloons but I drove with the windows down on the way here and all but one flew away.” To any other kid I knew, one balloon would not have been enough but to me it was more than enough. So whenever I see carnations it will always remind me of my mom and that memory. & of course chrysanthemums will always remind me of her because her name in Vietnamese is Cuc which translates to chrysanthemums in English.
